MYTHS
"Mobile Phones don’t get attacked by viruses/malware" – FALSE
- Just like computer viruses, phones are also susceptible to Viruses
and Malware. If infected, unauthorised activities such as intercepting
messages, or remotely turning on a phone's camera and microphone become
possible.
"Apple Computers and iPhones can’t get viruses" – FALSE
- Apple computers can get viruses and malware just like PCs can.
While iMacs, MacBooks, Mac Minis, and iPhones may not be as frequent targets as
Windows computers, they are still being infected.
"Our company is only small and not a target" – FALSE
- Small businesses are easy prey for cyberattacks for a number of
reasons. Most small businesses need
their employees to multi-task and therefore have more wide-ranging access to
the full system. Human behaviour also plays a major part as many people are so
busy just doing their job, they are less likely to take time to double-check an
e-mail. There are often less people to
manage and oversee the systems and processes. Statistics show small businesses
are 350% more likely to receive threats than large companies.
