Whilst similar and often used interchangeably, the terms Incidents,
Breaches, and Cyber Attacks are slightly different.
Security
Incidents
- An employee accidentally sharing
access to a restricted file with a co-worker or external person
- An employee uses a personal
device (laptop, phone, etc.) without authorisation to access work-related files
Data Breach
- A security incident that results
in the disclosure of confidential data to an unauthorised person
- Human
behaviour/error (clicking on links, weak passwords, etc.) or a system weakness
(virus checkers, firewalls, etc.)
